In Rolling Waves

It’s moody and its slow build throughout the track I think is what makes it a winner.

Turn Me On

Brisbane outfit The Grates have just released their brand new video for the first single from their upcoming album, Secret Rituals scheduled to drop June 17. Turn Me On is the name of the single, which is the first for the group after they lost their drummer Alana. The evidence of this now duo spending time in New York is very obvious in their slightly more mature and electronic sound.

Two Door Cinema Club

Two Door Cinema Club is an indie-rock band from Northern Ireland, they released their debut LP, Tourist History, last year. Five singles into their release, is the track What You Know. A very danceable indie pop track. The video is cool, but it feels like we’ve seen it a million times.

2010 In Review: Part 3

Part 3, our final part in our review of 2010 looks back at the best full releases from the year. An album or full release has a special place in my heart. It’s a way for a musician to be able to tell a story which can’t be done in 3mins. It provides the foundation for a total body of work and allows an artist to take risks where they might not always be able to.

Eyes Wide Open

It feels like the longest time coming, but at last Gotye has delivered new material to wet our experimental indie rock lips. After spending the last three years working with his band The Basics, Wally is back to making music for himself with the release of his third studio album immanent. The first single to be lifted from the as yet untitled album is called Eyes Wide Open. Gotye still reigns supreme as the best live performance I’ve ever seen. How exciting.

Volcanic

Operator Please have spent the year spreading the sound of their latest record, Gloves, all over the world. Six months since the release, it’s time for single number 4, Volcanic. There is no doubt that the success of this record has been more limited, specifically with the mainstream market which decided to pass, on Gloves. While it’s not as impressive as their debut, the album is certainly above average with some nice lyrically driven songs. Check out the just released video for the best track on the album, Volcanic below.

Found Things

Brisbane Up and Comers Laneous & The Family Yah describe their style perfectly in their Bio ” Laneous & The Family Yah make Grunty Indie Soul and Croon Punk for your ear-holes. Together with the all singing, all dancing Bird Fire Choir, Laneous navigates his band through abstract hip hop, punk and old soul.”.

Skeletons

We’re feeling a bit spooky this Wednesday. Not really. The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s latest album It’s Blitz has been a huge success for the group, making many Top 10’s of ’09 and winning many awards. Their new single is called Skeletons, a favourite of mine from the album. The YYY’s have made a very cool […]

Giving Up The Gun

The Ivy-League, rich-kid hipster band Vampire Weekend has just released the music video for their actually pretty decent single, Giving Up The Gun, and you’ll be weired out by who they snagged to make an appearance!! The clip, which involves a girl playing tennis in slow-motion on the set of Lady GaGa‘s Bad Romance music […]
